Homeopathic remedies

Homeopathy is a system of medicine that was developed by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann in the late 1700s. He was a German medical doctor who based it on the principal of “similia similibus curantur”, which means “like cures like”. This means that a substance in nature that produces certain symptoms, will help a sick person exhibiting those symptoms. For example, when you are in contact with a cut onion, it makes your eyes water.  Allium Cepa, which is the remedy made from an onion, is a great remedy for teary eyes (like in seasonal allergies).  When the medicinal substance is prepared according to homeopathic pharmacological principles, its healing properties will act gently and safely on a sick person. These substances are called homeopathic remedies, and there are currently over 2,000 remedies.

During an initial homeopathy intake appointment, the client will give a detailed description of all their symptoms. For a homeopath, a symptom is the body's way of showing what is not functioning optimally, and hinders that person from living to their fullest potential. This can include anything physical, mental, or emotional. These specific and characteristic symptoms will guide the remedy choice, and it is a process that will unfold over time. Healing is dynamic, and therefore you and your homeopath will stay in regular contact to keep track of your progress. As symptoms resolve and healing unfolds, possibly different remedies may be indicated, and communication is key. It is important to note that healing is not linear. You can expect to see an upward trend, but ups and downs along the way are normal.
